Last year at this time I was sitting in the studio contemplating on how I should celebrate the new year......and it evolved into this crazy idea of painting Cougar Peak everyday for one year. Coming from a background in animation, I decided to paint the exact same scene, with the idea being that at the end of the year I could animate it all together and watch the seasons come and go in a cool little movie...which will be coming soon.

This project has been an immense joy, and an experience that I shall ever remember. Also it has been a challenge, so much that at times I wasn't sure I had it in me to endure until the end.....but for those of you who have followed along on the journey, your comments and support have made it possible and all the more worth while. Thank you!

And as before here is the month in review, as well as the year in review.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyAhxvQPLYA0PS5Jl9hTfOO9J-KITpVdM7FPc7k0FtUET4SJH8nAtB-J5V7cElTg_SawD6JMzZ45RqlzrFl0xpzV2ZpJ3nJe4CR8Vsy7tw_KH1bSg_HC6CcR3h_cm2papiJRzLGCtBh5o/s400/December_Review.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5150190493772759282" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipRWraAMRogd5FQZDJ6JVpMuh1tI_29g0DtCuXcFfV8jsBHprnrbzfgJrROdzYivk2uWtOzWR1sAxqDhcMvOoG-CkKwGO15zFGgx1JCTGqx4rcBPLZxwIwoZswE_gq2oq93HK6ieFzS9o/s400/Cougar_Review_2007.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5150192362083533058" />Jared Shearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14879406947140189516noreply@blogger.com33tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-715217710462857332.post-20262271677092234612007-12-30T17:58:00.000-08:002007-12-30T18:10:49.247-08:00Cougar Peak #364<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXRdRvT76e3rLmlWFvKYG8PuyOVuiOgrGwJs_4Vyo1aFxjfDf1Md4doKan3atqqD2cZ3aJH9tW9N7sY3sskcXGTKtFJhD_IYuRuhzR7zD5kaMH8GswRe2oXilRjqk5i5ewJK14sbGs2iI/s400/364COUGAR_12_30_07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5149952896181944530" />
4.75" x 6.75" Acrylic on Illustration Board

Snow...It won't be long before this land is filled with snow. Again today snow covered the mountain in a blanket of cold white chill. For this painting I first started out by spraying my board with water, and then painting directly upon that. Once I had some shapes blocked in how I wanted....I then misted it again with the spray bottle. Finally coming back in with my brush, I lightly went over the areas I sprayed, pulling off the paint, leaving a nice "snowflake" texture.

Tomorrow will be the BIG one. After that I concentrated on getting the thick layer of clouds textured how I wanted it.....finally coming and and adding in the final details and highlights.Jared Shearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14879406947140189516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-715217710462857332.post-8712169630670090732007-12-09T18:59:00.000-08:002007-12-09T19:20:47.468-08:00Cougar Peak #343<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX77ELjoI6yhrTY56X-_EqX2gc_Od8I2NA7Jb5oXr-u9wk3qRqqW1Etbn6XkPaAdR11_eN-wXh1-Bp19xReaLeaAomo-nkv14rQzI-0DOxXKBfpNenNw_wtbtKTge5mrFjjiz_ElIQLtw/s400/343COUGAR_12_09_07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142173757155685170" />
4.75" x 6.75" Oil on Paper

Today there was a wild blizzard of snow that moved through the valley and obscured the mountain. I decided to switch over to my oil paints, again to mix things up. Keeping my paints a bit stiff I started to build of layers of falling snow. Once I had my values worked out on my painting, I came back in and laying my brush on it's side, built up a nice quick snow flake texture......and walllaaa.Jared Shearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14879406947140189516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-715217710462857332.post-55758086637994883212007-12-08T10:42:00.000-08:002007-12-08T10:45:31.104-08:00Cougar Peak #342<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5iDVLl0WQzry9XvLoUthpyBRpi5gVIf_o0RcMlGjANzUOism7oMFZncdi7iHFVuVa05x7yWatOigxm0_SndkxANPQl5flkEBAjNHz1IRfyXvh2C2CPvTJ1EWqLX94Ml86BigkP2jNbV8/s400/342COUGAR_12_08_07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141675081387848450" />
4.75" x 6.75" Acrylic on Paper

On today's painting I started out doing a quick sketch in blue pencil. Once my quick sketch was completed I came in back over the top with NuPastel, building up some quick values. I then sealed the image with an acrylic medium and painted over the top of my sketch with acrylics, letting the sketch work in my favor where I could and enhancing the sketch in other areas.Jared Shearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14879406947140189516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-715217710462857332.post-34619801938850478832007-12-07T08:47:00.001-08:002007-12-11T06:38:11.260-08:00Cougar Peak #341<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4EHEOLmdjMZXm3_x5nqPjnIlplhQ-xHUkqBlmq_fQYEgqBWJTNatr48ExszogdXyy8UI3bCipH7mFgC4cXk282uIgtlzLoKNfllfqudAszSGINn8ce4Xo9J5lvDz7MRHvEEgMwnseMQg/s400/341COUGAR_12_07_07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142724612481200994" />
4.75" x 6.75" Acrylic on Paper

This morning was nice and crisp as the fog lifted during the night leaving the valley covered in a layer of frost.
