Cougar Peak #124

4.75" x 6.75" Acrylic on Paper

Today the clouds had lifted a bit to expose the mountain in all of it's cold nakedness. There was a decent amount of snow that was dumped, so hopefully it will stick around for a bit. Again for this image I started out first with pastel and then worked in acrylic over the top of it.

Hey jared - i've been following your paintings for a week or two. I admire what you are doing - it is such a good idea to paint the subject over and over again. Let's you focus on technique and color. I recommend trying pastel with just plain ol' matte medium - you can shave the pastel into the medium for a wash like color, or you can use the matte medium to blend your pastels that you initially laid down, probably similar to the effects you see when you paint over with acrylic. I like this technique because it allows you to go back and forth with wet & dry - layering transparent colors and building up cool texture.

Keep up the good work!
